Called to Care Mission
Statement
The Called to Care Program at Christ Church UCC will provide spiritual,
physical and emotional
support for people both in our church and in the surrounding community.
We will become part of the Lay Visitation Committee and report to the Board
of Elders, under the auspices of
Consistory, the governing
body of Christ Church.
We will seek to form teams and training for health ministry, lay visitation,
meal provision, card ministry and telephone
ministry. We
will colaborate with our pastor, staff, Red Door Pre-school, Counseling
Services and other lay ministry programs
here at church and
in the community.
We will evaluate our success by polls of the congregation and by evaluation
by an outside committee led by our
Called to Care trainer
and use this information to improve our ability to the eyes, hands, and
heart of Christ here on earth.
What is a Health Ministry Program?
- A health Ministry Program
embraces all people from birth to death. It reaches out giving one-on-one
support, providing comfort,
education, and unconditional love to members of the church and wider community.
- The
Health Ministry Program at Christ Church UCC was established in 2002 after
a number of members participated in a training program to prepare pastors, nurses and laity for
a caregiving ministry.
- A
survey of the congregation helped establish the programs now being offered
and provided additional personnel to effectively carry out these programs.
- Having
a parish nurse, along with fellow congregational nurses, provides knowledge
and resources needed. They also follow up on health-related problem of our members.
- As
an integral part of Christ Church UCC, the program strives to promote physical,
emotional, social and spiritual well-being. These services are open to
any person in the community.
What are some of the Services Available Through the Health
Ministry Program?
- The Health Care Team checks
blood pressures and blood sugars the first Sunday of each month before
church.
- The Poison Prevention Program
informs pre-schoolers and their parents and the youth attending children's church of the importance of staying safe
and healthy.
- Community aerobic
fitness classes are offered each Monday morning and Wednesday evening with
professionally trained leaders from the YMCA.
- An
evacuation plan for the sanctuary has been implented through the cooperation
of FEMA (in the event of the inclement weather).
- We
participate in the Gifts of Grace Program through Matthew 25 AIDS support
group.
- Paperback
novels and puzzle books are provide to the residents of the Protestant
Home on a monthly basis.
- Brown
bags containing easily prepared foods are sent to families where there
is illness.
Who is Eligible for Services Through the Health Ministry
Program?
- The services provided
through the Health Ministry Program are open to all persons regardless
of their church affiliation
or age.
- There is no charge for
the services provided through this program.
